Enrichment Activities

Spanish

The Spanish language is taught utilizing a hands-on experience.  Through the use of a trained, bilingual early childhood teacher, the lessons are taught through the use of stories, songs, rhymes, phrases, and conversation.  Twice a week for 30 minutes each class starts the session by greeting one another in Spanish.  Afterwards, the children participate in a series of activities that enable them to acquire the language while having loads of fun.  Themes and categories for leaning include:  numbers, colors, animals, shapes, weather, people and items are introduced and reinforced through classroom use and home-school activities.

Creative Movement

Offered through the Child Craft Company, music and movement is offered every other Wednesday.  Each classroom has a 30 minutes session with a trained dancer.  During this experience children explore movement with theme related music.  With the use of props and imagination the children develop sharper listening skills, a better sense of rhythm, and improved gross motor capability.

Yoga

Focus on developing greater self control and a stronger character, Yoga Tales instructors provide a peaceful experience to our children through the use of mats, props, tranquil music, and a “Zen” like space.  Taught for 30 minutes every other Wednesday, children develop in the following ways:  increasing strength and flexibility, improving concentration, and building confidence and self-esteem.

Music

Lead by the internationally renowned Bills Jenkins, children are given an opportunity to play several instruments while Mr. Jenkins leads the group in song with the use of his guitar as a guide.  Specializing in music from Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, the children are given a rich cultural experience.

Library

The children attend bi-weekly story sessions at the local library.  Teachers also use this as an opportunity to add new books to their classroom library center.

Field Trips

Children participate in regular field trips.  The events include the local:  museums, galleries, merchants, playgrounds, farms, pet stores, garden shops, and cultural events.
